Justice in Quran: A Core Command
Allah places justice above everything else. He forbids oppression (Zulm) for Himself and His creation. The theme of Justice in Quran appears repeatedly.
Allah states: “Indeed, Allah orders justice and good conduct.” (Surah An-Nahl 16:90).
Consequently, a Muslim must practice justice even if it goes against their own kin. We cannot favor the rich over the poor or the strong over the weak. Thus, the Justice in Quran ensures that every human being receives dignity and respect, regardless of their race or status.
Upholding the Rights of Others
True piety reflects in how we treat people. Social justice means protecting the Rights of others. This includes the rights of neighbors, employees, orphans, and even enemies.
- Labor Rights: The Prophet (PBUH) commanded us to pay the worker before their sweat dries.
- Orphan Rights: We must protect the wealth of orphans strictly.
Moreover, Islam forbids cheating in business. A merchant who weighs less or hides defects violates the Concept of Social Justice (Adl) in Islam. Therefore, our worship remains incomplete if we trample upon the Rights of others.
Fairness in Judgment
Whether you are a judge in a court or a parent settling a dispute between children, you must exercise Fairness in judgment. Personal emotions must never influence the verdict.
The Quran warns us: “Do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just.” (Surah Al-Ma’idah 5:8).
This is a high standard. Even if we dislike someone, we must give them their due right. Furthermore, bribery is a major sin because it destroys Fairness in judgment. A just leader will receive shade under Allah’s Throne on the Day of Judgment.
